Lend Lease partnership helps Indigenous job seekers

Lend Lease

Break Thru’s growing partnerships are providing new and exciting opportunities for our job seekers. Many are entering industries they could never have imagined. Break Thru’s partnerships are breaking down barriers for our job seekers to create sustainable futures.

Break Thru’s recent partnership with Pindarri and David Liddiard Group will provide employment support for Indigenous job seekers in the next step of their employment path. Those involved will soon begin an exciting career with international property and infrastructure group, Lend Lease.

The 12 job seekers participating in the program were recently invited to an on-site introduction. The aim of the day was to provide an overall insight into all sectors, industries and services available at Lend Lease. Break Thru staff Aaron and Zona attended the introduction to provide additional support.

The introduction began at Lend Lease Beresfield where Operations Manager Brett, HR Manager Douglas, and mining representative Ben, discussed relevant information and answered all questions.

All involved were soon en route to Liddell Power Station and Bayswater Power Station. Here job seekers experienced security check points, safety and site rules and were provided with protective work wear including hard hats, safety glasses, ear plugs and gloves.  The visits opened the eyes of the job seekers who soon realised the growing opportunities available at Lend Lease. Going 10 stories up at Bayswater Power Station really highlighted the sheer size of one location within the company.

The 12 job seekers responded from the day with overwhelming excitement. Aaron and Zona were able to answer all questions in depth along with the support of Brett, Douglas and Ben.

Participants have attended medicals and all have indicated an interest to start ASAP. A handful expressed an interest in gaining opportunities with roads, plumbing, civil and apprenticeship options – all part of the service industry at Lend Lease.

The opportunities at Lend Lease are endless. Our participants are now aware of the significant advantage they have in getting their foot in the door of the Lend Lease family. However, many of the job seekers experience extensive barriers to sustainable employment. Break Thru, Pindarri and David Liddiard Group continue to provide extensive and ongoing support to all job seekers to ensure they have the best start of their employment path.

By April, five job seekers have been confirmed to commence at the Bayswater Power Station. The remaining job seekers will begin over the coming weeks at mining or road sites.

UPDATE: the remaining seven job seekers have now commenced employment at Liddell Power Station. All participants are enjoying the work and are progressing through their training well.
