All Break Thru employees are able to access $1000 per annum for individual Learning and Development.
We know that the key to a productive and participative culture is employees who are personally
and professionally fulfilled. At Break Thru, ongoing learning & development needs are met through
job coaching; short courses; employees interchange programs; peer learning; acting at a higher level;
mentoring; study leave, assistance with professional registration & tertiary fees assistance. Break Thru
offer a structured 6 month Induction Program consisting of up to 15 days dedicated to learning and
development. We also offer a year round calendar of professionally facilitated courses & a Leadership
Development Program for managers and staff identified for sucession programs.
Salary Packaging
Break Thru's Public Benevolent Institution status means we can offer employees the option
of salary packaging income without the imposition of fringe benefits tax. Packaging allows us
to provide all employees with a competitive salary package that is fair and equitable and maximises
your earning potential. The benefits available to Break Thru employees are via Expense Fringe Benefit using a VISA debit card,
Car Fringe Benefit, Meal Entertainment Fringe Benefit, Salary Sacrifice Superannuation. Salary
packaging allows you to pay for some of your living expenses with pre-tax dollars. The overall
benefit is that you pay less tax and maximise your disposable income!

Generous Leave Provisions
Parental Leave - Maternity/Paternity Leave
Break Thru have not made any changes to our PPL program. It is available alongside and in
addition to the Government Paid Parental Leave program.
Ensuring Break Thru is leading the way in benefits for not for profit sector
employees, & offers employees (full time and part time only)
with over 12 months continuous eligible employment, maternity leave with pay equivalent to a period
of six (6) weeks leave at full pay or twelve (12) weeks leave at half pay. Paternity leave
(as per maternity leave provisions) can also be made to a primary carer who has twelve (12) months
continuous service with BTPS.
Early Access to Long Service Leave
BTPS currently offer staff two months long service leave after ten years of continuous, eligible
service. Changes have now been made to policy to allow staff to access their long service leave
on a pro rata basis after seven years eligible service. Leave may be taken with 2 months at
normal pay or leave taken over 4 months at 50% pay.
Cultural and Ceremonial Leave
Staff are entitled to one paid Cultural and Ceremonial Leave (CCL) day per 12 month
period. This paid leave will provide staff with the opportunity to attend one day of
cultural ceremonial, and/or religious/national significance.
Christmas Closedown
Break Thru offices are closed from the last working day before Christmas to the first working day back after the new year
giving all employees a break. This is a minimum shutdown period and employees are also
encouraged to take additional leave at this time in order to spend some well earned time with family and friends.
A Safe & Supportive Workplace
Break Thru are committed to ensuring a safe and healthy environment for employees, clients and
visitors. We encourage cooperation to safeguard our people and others in the workplace in areas
of risk control, hazard prevention, accident prevention, health preservation and fire protection.
Break Thru's OH & S program relates to a wide range of variables that all work together to keep our
employees physically and psychologically safe and well.
We recognise that employees are our most valuable resource and as such, we are
committed to providing benefits that contribute to the well being of employee members.
The quality of a employee member's working life is influenced by factors both at work and
outside the workplace, such as anxiety related to interpersonal conflicts or work adjustment issues,
family / relationship issues, grief and loss. Break Thru's Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is provided by
Drake Workwise and is a short term counselling service aimed at assisting employees
to deal with personal issues affecting their ability to function at work. Sessions are free to the
employee and provided off the worksite by professionally
qualified psychologists.
